Been working on my own system this time.

The system is currently set up with a passive 3 way crossover (skytec-lol):)  the amp is bridged into the 8ohm load delivering around 300wrms.  bass is my cerwin vega 189sc, mid is a modified jordan jx92(damaged during a stupid previous experiment so patched it up to use on this), tweeter is a motorola piezo 'cts/powerline'.  x- over points are 800hz and 5khz.  cab is 21mm birch ply.  axel is 16mm studding.  amp is a mmats lm2125.   battery is a enersys powersafe 92f

The control box is a 'caliber' active crossover with 5band eq.  currently i use it to allow a bit of system eq and some gain when using quieter ipod signals.  its handy becuase it has a nice rotary volume knob so you dont have to keep using the fiddly ipod volume control.  eventually i will run it 2 way with the caliber unit feeding <100hz to the 189sc.  and i will build a small cabinet housing a 8" woofer, the jordan midrange and a high power soft dome.  the piezo sounds horrific at loud volumes so im cutting the highs with the caliber eq.

the cabinet used to have a recessed binding post terminal plate on the back.  now it has been removed, the hole remains.  now the hole acts as a rear port, but in a really interesting way- leave it open and bass seems to be front directional(with an almost long throw effect).  put your hand over it and the bass goes more omnidirectional with less throw!  must be the way the battery is positioned that it in some way works in a similar way that a 'cardoid' system works...  none the less, its a helpful addition to a design where as much power needs to be projected forward and minimal waste occurs.

*edit* the piezo now sounds sweet as a nut.  i put a 10w 8ohm resistor in parallel with it to trick the crossover into thinking it was using a real 8ohm driver.  it is now running crossed over at the correct freq and sounds as good as a soft dome.

nice job Thumbs Up

i take it thats the one i missed on sat night? gutted!

Really like the way that the active Xover does so much, good one with that. Only criticism is the bare cabling / mids / Xover doesnt look so great. Perhaps putting them in a cab above the bass would weatherproof them a bit / make it all neater?

Nice work, I bet that damn tough being 21mm ply.
I'm English, and as such I crave disappointment. I actively seek it out.

now that sounds fun!.  i have a feeling davey t's system will kill everything else in sight.  maybe more of a 'hookup'.  would be intense if someone could provide some tt's, mixer and inverter to run them.  either that or if someone has one of these numark dual cdj's that run off 12v dc adapters it would be ideal.

lol.  my other half said it looked like some sort of hospital equipment from the 80's.  might repaint black one day.

there will be two rigs running in unison this saturday.  so we gonna have some serious volumes and proper good quality to boot.
